“In England, 42% of working-age adults (aged 16-65) are unable to understand or make use of everyday health information. How can I help people improve their literacy and health?”

NHS England| is working together with partners to address health literacy to ensure that people have the skills, knowledge and support they need to understand and act on health information and access services. An important element of their health literacy work is to ensure that individuals have access to good quality accessible information, and appropriate support. This will enable them to play an active part in their own health and care and be involved in decisions about their treatment and care.

There are also many other resources supporting health literacy:

Reading Well Books on Prescription| – can help you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing using self-help reading. There is evidence| from the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) that self-help reading can help people with common mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression.
